If you don’t like funeral’s don’t kick sand in Ninja’s face.

August 24, 2012

I was recently introduced to the spectacle that is Die Antwoord, a South African shock rave-rap act, that just might be real or a joke. I can’t explain it – Just look them up. Although I’m kind of repulsed, I can’t stop staring at that hair and those terrible tattoos. And the teeth! Gritty, kind of filthy but so interesting to draw.
Enjoy!

Here’s an illustration for an editorial job that got cancelled. I don’t know the details of the article but it was supposed to be about crank calls. Hello? Hello?

Bath Salts!

July 09, 2012

I have to admit, when everyone on the news was yelling about the “bath salts” attacks a few weeks ago I had no idea what they were talking about. How could something so benign that added a little scented fizz to your “me” time bath suddenly create the urge in oneself to chew on another human being while feeling no ill effects from pepper spray, tasers and the occasional bullet? And why the heck would anyone want to ingest them? What brainiac decided THATwas a good idea?

Silly me – I had to do a little research. It’s the coined name of a certain group of synthetic designer drugs that all of the crazies are getting their hands on these days. Turns out, my “Fizzy O’Therapy™” and “Fairy Jasmine™” bath bombs aren’t going to turn me into a flesh eating zombie lunatic after all (Yay!). Still, I kind of thought that the innocence of a 1950′s housewife hawking the stuff would make a funny editorial piece. Enjoy!

Breaking the Ice (Cream Law)

June 30, 2012

I was recently asked to do this humorous illustration for Louisville Magazine. The article, written by Roger Riddell, is about weird old Kentucky Laws. The idea was to illustrate how it is illegal in Kentucky for citizens to carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket. The author writes, ” The theory goes that it was passed to prevent would -be horse thieves from stealing the beasts by luring them home with a frozen treat”. Thanks to Art Director Suki Anderson for the fun assignment!

Illustrations for Threadless, Redbook and other arty stuff

May 14, 2012

Hey there! Some good stuff happening lately!

I was asked to work on an editorial illo for Redbook Magazine. I can’t really say anything other than that but it will be on News Stands June 12.

Also: HELP ME WIN!
I have a few of my illos as Tee shirt designs up on Threadless. I thought that they would make some pretty fun shirts. But work will only get picked if you vote for it, so please do! I would LOVE to win get my stuff printed on shirts available to the masses there. Then everyone could get a cool zombie shirt! Every vote counts, and I appreciate yours! Yeah, you gotta register but it only takes a minute and you can vote at this link. Oh, and don’t forget my other two crazy kitty designs as well. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Like Art? Like Wine?
Last, but not least – My illustration, “Bend in the Road”, has been accepted into the New Hope Art League’s “Images of New Hope” juried show at the New Hope Winery. The show is open May 17th-June June 4th. The opening reception is Saturday, May 19th from 1 to 4pm. So if you are in the area and looking for something to do on the weekend please stop by, sample some Pennsylvania Wines and check out the show!
