Power Hungry - Illustration for Baltimore Magazine

I just did this funny little illustration for the November issue of Baltimore Magazine. The article, written by Jane Marion, is titled "Power Hungry" and it's about the politics of the presidential palate. You can read it on page 224.

The specs were to include Trump and Clinton as well as nominees from times past eating some really weird (and sometimes gross) combinations: Lincoln chowing down on chicken fricassee, Nixon eating cottage cheese and ketchup (barf!) Trump enamored with a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwich (I thought he was more of a Big Mac kind of guy - eye roll) Clinton and hot peppers/Sriracha, George W. noshing on some shrimp and cheesy grits and Jefferson spooning up a cup of crème brûlée. There were a lot of figures to draw in a tiny spaceso I went with a dinner scene adding a little current political climate humor into the mix. There may even be some tiny hands and thieving going on among the dinner conversation. I don't know, what do you think? :) Check it out some details below.

Illustration for the October Issue of Washingtonian Magazine

Here's a quick illustration that I did for the October issue of Washingtonian Magazine, "These Private Schools Are Even More Customized for Your Kid," by Elaina Plott. The article discusses DC area private schools and how crazy customized and competitive they have become for those families who are hoping that they will propel their children straight into Ivy League Schools and bright career paths.

From my own experience growing up in rural Pennsylvania and attending public schools until I went to college and Art School, this was an eye opening read for me. I had never heard of the terms STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) , STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts Math) and had no idea that K-4 Engineering was even a thing - besides maybe playroom building blogs or a game a Jenga? Anyway, the story is a pretty interesting and you have a few minutes check it out.

Cover illustration for 914CEO Magazine

I had the opportunity to do the cover for the September/October issue of 914CEO Magazine. Sarasota, Florida's leading business magazine. The Art Director wanted the cover to bereminiscent of the old Monopoly Game board, while showcasing many of the points in the cover story (housing, education, retail, new business opportunities, etc) .

It took some sketching and thinking to figure out how to make the buildings look less like a cartoon, yet still fit in with the Monopoly game board and pieces so I ended up drawing them in an isometric perspective but in the South Florida style. I think that it turned out great!

Youthful Discretion - Washingtonian Magazine

Here's a fun illustration that I did for the September issue of Washingtonian Magazine. The article, titled "Youthful Discretion", discusses how we all want a quick fix when it comes to keeping healthy and looking our best, but how there is no magic pill for eating right, exercising and keeping balance in your life.

Illustration is like opening a present - you never know who or what you will be asked to draw. This week I was super excited to be asked to draw comedian, Amy Schumer, whom I adore! The portrait is for the cover of this weeks' Chicago Tribune Printers Row Magazine and supports the review of Schumer's new memoir, "The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo".
