In my annual "end of year" post last December I mentioned how I wanted to work on some new personal creative projects in between assignments. As a working illustrator I spend most of my time creating art for specific assignments or promotional pieces to get more of said assignments. That sounds like a vicious cycle, right? It kind of is but the truth is that I really enjoy being an illustrator and am incredibly lucky and grateful to be able to do it for a living! (exclamation point!)
That being said, I deeply know how important it is to "feed" the artist within. To just create for the pure joy of it - nothing to do with work. I have neglected doing this for a long time and my soul is hungry!
For the past year and a half I have been thinking about what kind of drawing projects that I'd like to explore. Nothing is set in stone, I don't even know for sure what I'll be drawing or what tools I'll be using to do it but here is an ink pen drawing that I did for fun this past weekend. I haven't touched a rapidiograph pen in years and the finished goat looks pretty different than the original pencil sketch that I did but I had good time playing around with it. And isn't that the point?
